The Disinterested Roommate

So, your roommate barely looks up from their screen, huh? The one who thinks “holiday spirit” is just something that involves eggnog and headphones to drown out everyone else? Now you’re trying to pitch them on a lobster-man who crawls out of the drain for a butter bath, and they’re already zoning out. Fantastic. They’ve mastered the art of the disinterested shrug, and you can almost hear them thinking, “Not my circus, not my lobster.”

How to Convince Them

Listen, you’re not here to beg. Start with, “Relax, I’m not asking you to throw a party. I’m just giving you the chance to take part in something that’s actually interesting for once. All it involves is butter, which, let’s be honest, you probably already have stockpiled in the fridge.”

Still not getting through? Crank up the sarcasm: “Or, you know, you could continue watching reruns of that super thrillingseries you’ve binged six times. Your call. But here’s the deal—LobsterClaus might leave behind a little surprise, and trust me, you’ll want to be around when it happens. Could mean a mini-vacation, could mean bragging rights for surviving another one of my holiday schemes.”

They’ll cave eventually when they realize it’s less work than cleaning the sink (which, let’s be real, they never do anyway). And if they don’t? Perfect. More buttery fun for you, and they can keep being a couch potato. Win-win.

This always sometimes never helps.
